Stellantis CEO: The Global Automotive Market Is Splitting Into Two Segments

Leave a message

Gasgoo News. According to foreign media reports, Antonio Filosa, CEO of Stellantis, stated at a recent analyst meeting that the global automotive market is clearly bifurcating into two segments: the United States and the rest of the world.

"We see clearly the world divided into two parts: one is the United States … and then we have the rest of the world," said Filosa.

The multinational automaker, home to brands including Jeep and Ram, is navigating a US trade and policy landscape that is increasingly divergent from other regions, especially Europe. A key divergence lies in the policy environment governing automakers' partnerships with Chinese firms.

For Stellantis and its rivals, the ongoing challenge lies in vehicle development tailored to the US market. The US represents Stellantis' primary profit pool, yet local regulations and consumer demands differ markedly from those in other global markets.

Filosa said Stellantis will rely entirely on domestic engineering and R&D capabilities for the US market. In other markets including Europe, the group collaborates with other automakers, among which are China's Leapmotor and Dongfeng Motor.

Filosa previously noted that such partnership models are not intended for the US market, as other automakers with similar cooperation arrangements have come under scrutiny from the Trump administration.

US government officials recently criticized Ford Motor's joint venture with China's Geely Auto in Europe, arguing that the tie-up would help Chinese automakers expand their global footprint.

Ford responded that the company is adapting to the new landscape of the global auto industry and improving operational efficiency and competitiveness through these partnerships.

Against the backdrop of widening divergence between US policy and the global automotive industry landscape, US automakers are caught in real tensions between policy stances and commercial interests. Balancing compliance with local regulatory requirements while sustaining global competitiveness has become a new challenge for automakers worldwide.
