MCS Megawatt Charging Gun Standard Launched for Heavy-Duty EVs, Supporting Up to 4.5MW Ultra-High Power

CharIN Association fully rolled out the commercialized MCS (Megawatt Charging System, IEC TS 63379:2026) charging gun standard exclusively designed for heavy-duty electric transport including trucks, coaches, mining machinery and electric ships. The MCS charging connector supports a rated voltage of 1500V and maximum current of 3000A, delivering peak charging power up to 4.5MW. All MCS guns adopt mandatory full liquid cooling, integrated multi-point temperature sensing and reinforced high-current conductive terminals to avoid overheating during long-duration heavy-load charging. Unlike light-duty passenger vehicle charging guns, MCS connectors feature a larger locking structure with double safety interlock loops to eliminate high-voltage leakage risks under industrial outdoor environments. Major European and North American commercial vehicle manufacturers have committed to equipping MCS charging ports on new heavy EV models starting in 2027, while highway rest areas and logistics parks will launch dedicated megawatt charging stations with MCS liquid-cooled gun dispensers in the second half of 2026. CharIN stated that MCS will serve as the unified global heavy-duty charging standard, complementing CCS for passenger cars and forming a complete high-power charging gun standard system covering all EV categories.
