BYD unveils 1,500 kW ultra-fast EV charger, plans 20,000 flash charging stations in China
BYD on Thursday unveiled in Shenzhen what it said is the world's most powerful mass-produced single-gun ultra-fast charging pile, delivering up to 1,500 kW. The charger features a rail-mounted T-shaped suspended design and is equipped with a zero-gravity charging gun that can be operated with one hand. It also supports simultaneous dual-gun charging without power reduction, the company said.
Paired with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery, the system can charge a vehicle to 70% in five minutes and to full in nine minutes. Every charging station is integrated with an energy storage system to avoid impacting grid load during peak charging hours. Each liquid-cooled charging gun can serve around 50 vehicles per day, bringing daily power throughput up to 2,000 kWh.
The sliding suspended structure keeps charging cables lifted off the ground to prevent tangling, abrasion and contamination. Built-in intelligent control modules enable scheduled charging, real-time energy data display via color screens, as well as full protection against electric leakage, overheating, overload and short circuit. The equipment is compatible with EVs operating within a 200V–1000V voltage range.
BYD launched its nationwide Flash Charging deployment strategy at the conference. The brand aims to build 20,000 ultra-fast charging stations covering major cities and highway networks across China within two years. Apart from public ultra-charging stations, BYD will roll out a series of high-power wall-mounted home EV chargers, including customized Type 2 models tailored for European overseas export markets.
